Shinigami 死神 is a japanese word for "Death Gods". Viz Media, the company that owns the licencing for Bleach in North America, translate Shinigami to "Soul Reapers".
It is very easy to spot a Shinigami as they usually wear the Soul society's uniform which consist of:
- white kosode, a short-sleeved under-kimono.
- black kimono
- black hakama
- white obi sash
- White haori with a japanese engraved number on the back (For captain ranks)

- Kido-magical spells involving the focusing of spiritual pressure.
- Long Life Span- Even though they are not immortal, Shinigami can live for thousands of years.
